Hidden Beja is run by Secrets Beyond Tejo, a one-person local project in Beja, and hosted by Vasco, who guides in English, Portuguese and Italian. We link to it because it does on foot, in one day, what this guide does in writing: the castle quarter, the Sé, the Mouraria, Praça da República, the convent facades, and the stories behind doors that are currently closed. Around thirty stops between the Largo dos Duques and the Convento de São Francisco, told as one story.
It is not a generic walking tour and it is not a march. The day is built around pauses: a coffee, the climb up the keep, a long lunch at a family adega, sweets at a historic counter. If you have read our morning walking route, this is the same ground with someone who can read it aloud, plus the afternoon.
